Charles Holden's Turnpike Lane station was built in 1932 where Turnpike Lane, Green Lanes and Wood Green High Road meet, with a brick ticket hall half-sunk into the ground and two large ventilation towers; it has been listed Grade II since 1994.
Flats above the shops on Turnpike Lane
The Lane runs west from the station towards Hornsey, and the council says it is home to around 100 independent businesses; many of the shops have flats on the floors above. It was becoming a main road in the 1880s, yet even in 1900 it had only 30 to 40 houses.
Flats over shops show up in the Census, though as a small share. In the census area (MSOA) that the House of Commons Library calls Wood Green South, which runs from the north side of Turnpike Lane up to The Mall, 3.7% of the 2,872 households in 2021 lived in a commercial building, such as a flat over a shop, and 47.1% lived in a purpose-built block of flats. Renting was the norm: 36.4% of households rented privately and 34.7% from the council or a housing association, while 25.3% owned.
Hornsey Park, north of the Lane
Behind the shops on the north side is the Hornsey Park estate. It was being laid out by 1869 and by 1881 took in Hornsey Park Road, Ravenstone Road and Park Ridings among others; the Imperial Property Investment Company owned it in 1879, six-roomed houses there were selling well in 1880, and by 1896 the whole district was built over. Where a six-roomed house has been divided into two flats, each usually ends up with a modest kitchen, and the cooker is often a freestanding one or a built-in single under the worktop.
Whatever the floor, the routine is the same. Racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, and the cavity, the fan cover and the door glass are worked on by hand in the kitchen. Where the door can be split, it is.
South of the Lane, between Green Lanes and Wightman Road, lay the old Harringay House estate, which the British Land Company bought in 1880-1 and laid out as a grid of 23 streets; the first plots in its northern half were auctioned in 1882. Parking on either side of Turnpike Lane
Two of Haringey's parking zones meet near Turnpike Lane station. On the council's zone map, Hornsey Park Road, Ravenstone Road and Park Ridings, north of the Lane, are mostly in the Wood Green Inner zone, which is controlled every day from 8am until 10pm. Hampden Road, Willoughby Road, Sydney Road and Raleigh Road, to the south near Ducketts Common, are in the Wood Green Outer zone, controlled from 8am to 6.30pm on Monday to Saturday only. The council publishes every zone's hours, but the signs on your street are what count, so tell us the road name when you book; the team needs a bay.

Can you come on a Sunday?
Yes, at the weekday price. North of the Lane the Inner zone is controlled on Sundays from 8am to 10pm, while the Outer zone streets south of it, Hampden Road for one, have no zone controls on a Sunday.
Can the extractor hood be done at the same time?

Where does the work happen?
In your kitchen. The racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, and the cavity, fan cover and door glass are cleaned by hand there. The oven is put back together and heated before we leave.
