Two addresses do most of the work here and they have nothing in common. Cheval Three Quays sits beside the Tower with 159 serviced and residential apartments looking across at HMS Belfast. A few minutes north, the Mansell Street Estate went up in 1977 with 194 homes, and the scheme to knock it down and rebuild it was withdrawn in March 2020, so those original kitchens are still in place and still being cleaned.

Mansell Street is one of the roads that defines the Congestion Charge zone, and a boundary road is not inside the zone it bounds. So the estate side costs us nothing to reach and Three Quays does not, which changes our morning and not your bill.

Who rings and why
Short-let operators ring on a rota. Agents ring at check-out, and the tenancies behind Tower Hill are short ones, because most people renting a flat this close to Fenchurch Street are here for a contract. Estate residents ring when the oven has beaten them, which is a different job and usually a longer one.
Does the flat smell afterwards?
No. Racks, trays and side runners soak in a heated dip tank in the van, while the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand indoors with non-caustic products, which is why a serviced flat can be relet the same afternoon.
Is there a surcharge for EC3N?
No, and no call-out fee inside the North and South Circular. The price is fixed on the phone.
Can you do a flat with the tenant already gone?
Yes, as long as someone can let us in. We heat-test the oven and sign it off before leaving, so the inventory has something to record.
