Tottenham Green is two areas of grass, a hectare in all, with the A10 running between them up the High Road. It was common land until it was first laid out as a park in the early 1900s, and it has been a conservation area since 26 March 1976.
The old village green that became a civic centre
In the Middle Ages the High Cross and the green just south of it were as close as Tottenham came to a village centre. The cross, first recorded in 1409, was rebuilt about 1600 as a brick column and stuccoed in the Gothic style in 1809; Holy Trinity church went up on the north side of the green in 1830. Early in the 20th century the urban district council replaced the houses along the west side with a row of civic buildings, led by the Town Hall of 1904-5, listed Grade II since 1988. The Georgian houses of Bruce Grove are a short walk north.

Several homes round the Green are in buildings that began as something else. In 1868 a deaconesses' institution acquired Avenue House, facing the Green; it grew into the Prince of Wales Hospital, which closed in 1985 and was turned into homes in 1993 with its front kept. The block is now Deaconess Court. Behind the Town Hall, restored in 2010, Newlon Housing Trust developed Isobel Place: family homes inside restored Victorian workshops and new-build homes round two green courtyards, with more than 16,000 old bricks reused.
The 2021 Census reflects that mix. In the census area (MSOA) that the House of Commons Library calls Tottenham Green East, which covers Town Hall Approach Road and the streets on both sides of the High Road, 5.0% of the 3,140 households lived in a converted building other than a house, against 1.2% across Haringey, and 49.8% in a purpose-built block of flats. 39.9% rented from the council or a housing association, 35.8% rented privately and 20.4% owned.
Flats made inside older buildings, like most new ones, usually have a fitted kitchen with a built-in oven. The clean is the same either way. Parking in the Seven Sisters zone around the Green
On the council's zone map both halves of the Green are in the Seven Sisters zone, from Town Hall Approach Road and Isobel Place on the west side to Tottenham Green East and Colsterworth Road on the east. The council's list of zone hours gives Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6.30pm, with parking free outside those hours and on bank holidays. Check the signs on your street all the same.

No. The price follows the cooker, in Deaconess Court, a workshop conversion or a terraced house alike. Tell us the floor and which entrance to use when you call.
