Oven cleaning in Tilbury, RM18, in the dock-worker terraces and the streets behind the fort. Heated tank in the van, seven days, single ovens from £77.
Tilbury Fort went up for Henry VIII in 1539 to hold the river against whatever came up it, and Elizabeth I came ashore here in the Armada summer of 1588 to review her main army, camped up the road at West Tilbury. The Empire Windrush docked here in June 1948. Both of those are older than nearly every house in the town.
The town was built for the docks, and built late
Tilbury is a late-19th-century town that grew around the dock construction rather than the other way round, and the housing was thrown up for dock workers in conditions poor enough that the government was still improving them after 1918. What that leaves is terraces and interwar improvement stock rather than period villas, so compact kitchens with built-under single ovens are the pattern. An extractor hood in a Tilbury terrace is £28, booked with the oven or on its own. The Port of Tilbury still works, one of Britain's three main container ports alongside Southampton and Felixstowe, though containerisation took the jobs and they never came back.
The ferry has not run since April 2024
The Gravesend crossing is an old one and it stopped on 1 April 2024, when Thurrock pulled its share of the subsidy and took more than 100,000 journeys a year with it. A partnership of Kent County Council, Gravesham, Thurrock and the Port of London Authority has not found the money to restart it, and a 2026 report put the return no closer, with feasibility work suggesting journeys would need to reach 160,000 and fares to rise by 90% just to break even. So we come by road. The A1089 runs the town up to the A13, and Tilbury Town station sits on the c2c line into Fenchurch Street.

Tilbury questions
Is anything you use caustic?
Not indoors. The cavity, fan cover and door glass are done by hand with non-caustic products. The heated tank in the van is where the racks and trays go.
Do you clean the fan and the grill as well?
Yes. The fan cover comes off and gets degreased, and the grill and its plate are part of the oven, not an extra.
What does a double oven come to?
£110, and about two hours. A single is £77 and roughly 90 minutes.
Can you get here this week?
Often. Call 020 8077 5225 and we will tell you straight what is open.

What customers tell us
Nice hardworking lads that always do a good job. We used them for our old flat when moving out and for the new one now, both jobs were done very professionally. My wife is very impressed with the results and would recommend them to friends and family.
Arrived promptly and did a great job cleaning the oven, hob and extractor. They look like new now and for a very reasonable price too.
Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
