In 1797 Edward Hasted described Sundridge as a manor and seat among the woods in the north-east corner of Bromley parish, once the home of the Blund family. Peter le Blund owned it in the reign of Henry III. It passed by marriage to the Willoughbys, then by purchase to the Booths, and much later to Thomas Washer of Lincoln's Inn, who died in 1720; from that family and the trees around the house, Hasted wrote, ordinary people called it Washers in the Woods. The owner when Hasted wrote was Edward George Lind, for whom the house now called Sundridge Park was built in 1792-95.
