Sunbury's two centres, by the river and at the Cross
The railway came in 1864, with a station at the north end of Green Street, and a second settlement of small houses grew up round it. That is Sunbury Common, once called Upper Sunbury and known locally as Sunbury Cross. Electrification of the line in 1915 no doubt added to the building, and by 1957 the parish had 996 council houses and flats. The same survey said most newer building was small detached houses and bungalows, except in Upper Sunbury, where terraces and semis predominated.
The 2021 Census still shows the split. Sunbury Common ward had 28.2% of households in purpose-built flats and 30.8% in terraced houses, and 22.6% rented from a social landlord. In Sunbury East ward 39.5% of households lived in a detached house and 39.2% owned their home outright. Halliford and Sunbury West was owner-heavy too, with 40.5% owning outright and only 10.8% renting privately.
A house owned for many years may still have the cooker it was bought with, an older freestanding one or a built-in double. A flat at the Cross is more likely to have a built-in single under the worktop. Both get the same treatment: racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, and the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand indoors, on dust sheets.

Where the van parks in Sunbury
Spelthorne stopped running on-street parking on 1 April 2023. Permits, bay suspensions and enforcement on the roads are now Surrey County Council's, and the borough keeps its own car parks. Three of those are in Sunbury: Thames Street (TW16 5QF), Orchard Meadow (TW16 5HY) and the Walled Garden (TW16 6AF), all open 7am to 7pm with the first hour free.
A car park can work for a flat close by. For a house, a space on the drive or outside is better, since a single takes about 90 minutes. Lines may also change soon: Surrey's 2025 to 2026 review looked at over 165 requests across Spelthorne, with plans drawn for the Lower Sunbury and Halliford and the Sunbury Common and Ashford Common divisions, due to be installed before April 2027.

Nice hardworking lads that always do a good job. We used them for our old flat when moving out and for the new one now, both jobs were done very professionally. My wife is very impressed with the results and would recommend them to friends and family.
