Streatham Hill splits into two jobs for us. On one side are the Victorian and Edwardian terraces and larger period conversions on the roads off the hill, many with a freestanding cooker or an integrated single in a rear kitchen. On the other are the 1920s and 1930s mansion blocks, where the flats have compact fitted kitchens with a single oven and not much room to swing a tray, and Pullman Court, the Grade II* modernist block on Streatham Hill itself, is the extreme version, 218 flats built in 1936 with built-in kitchens designed to save every inch.
The method suits both. Shelves, trays and side runners lift out and soak in the heated tank in the van, so we never carry a soaking rack through a narrow mansion-block hall. The cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand with non-caustic products. No smell after.
Telford Park and the family houses
Up on the Telford Park estate the stock changes again. Those are the Arts and Crafts detached and semi-detached houses, the most sought-after roads on the hill, and they tend to have bigger kitchens with a range cooker. Parking on the hill
The parking control here is light. The Streatham Hill East zone runs 10am to noon Monday to Friday only, so outside that two-hour slot most side roads park freely. The A23 Streatham High Road has red-route and loading limits, so on jobs on the main road we plan the van position first.
Do you cover both SW16 and SW2?
Yes. Streatham Hill sits across both postcodes, and the terraces, the mansion blocks, Pullman Court and the Telford Park roads are all covered seven days a week.
Can you clean an oven in a small mansion-block flat?
Yes. The racks soak outside in the van and we hand-clean the cavity in place, so we are not filling a small kitchen with wet trays and fumes.
My kitchen is off the living room. Will it smell?
No. We use non-caustic products on the cavity and soak the caustic-heavy parts in the van, so no smell drifts into the flat after.
How long will it take?
A single is about ninety minutes, a double closer to two hours, a range a little more. We heat-test and sign off the oven before we leave.
