When the Streatham Hill Theatre opened in 1929 it was one of the largest theatres outside the West End, with more than 2,500 seats behind a terracotta front by W. G. R. Sprague and W. H. Barton. The flats came in the next decade. Lambeth's conservation area profile describes much of the building along Streatham Hill as early to mid 20th century, with mansion blocks among the shops, entertainment buildings and churches.
Streatham Hill's 1930s mansion blocks
Wavertree Court, by Frank Harrington, dates from 1933: white-rendered four-storey blocks with mansard roofs, set round two gardens. Across Wavertree Road, Corner Fielde (1937) rises to six, seven and eight storeys in brown brick, and its sales brochure sold it as Mayfair in Streatham, with tiled kitchens and constant softened hot water. On the west side, Telford Court was ready to move into by 1933, and Wyatt Park Mansions took a direct hit from a flying bomb on the night of 24 June 1944 without collapsing.
Further up the east side is Pullman Court. Frederick Gibberd designed its 218 flats in 1933-5, in ten ranges grouped into three blocks, and Historic England lists it Grade II* as one of the first developments of flats in Britain in the International Modern style. Its smaller one- and two-room flats open off access galleries on the shady side of the blocks.
A flat kitchen planned in the 1930s is a small room, likely to hold a built-in single or a compact freestanding cooker today. Shelves, trays and runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately. The cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand in the flat.
Telford Park, behind the west side of the hill
West of the mansion blocks on that side is an older estate. Telford Park was laid out between 1878 and 1882 along Criffel Avenue, Killieser Avenue and Telford Road, with Queen Anne style houses by E. J. Tarver, who saw to it that no two were the same. Its lawn tennis club opened in 1880, and the council calls it the second oldest in England after Wimbledon. A house is more likely than a mansion-block flat to have a double oven or a 90cm range cooker; a range takes two to three hours, and the range cooker cleaning page explains what is involved.
Renting on the east side of the hill
Streatham Hill East ward, which takes in Pullman Court, had 4,021 households at the 2021 Census. 46.4% lived in a purpose-built block of flats and 22.2% in a converted or shared house. 30.4% rented privately, 28.6% rented from the council or a housing association and 39.8% owned. When a tenancy ends, the invoice can go to the letting agency, with photos for the checkout file on request, and keys for an empty flat can be collected by arrangement.

Parking near the A23 on Streatham Hill
Streatham Hill itself is the A23, a Transport for London red route, and since 21 July 2025 a stretch of its east side by Wavertree Court has been no stopping at any time. The van goes into a side street. Lambeth extended its Streatham Hill East parking zone (M) from 31 March 2025. Where your street is inside a zone, the plate on the bay gives the hours, so look at it and tell us the street when you book.

My Pullman Court flat is off an access gallery. Is that a problem?
No. The removable parts come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, and the rest is done in your kitchen, so a gallery does not change the job. Tell us the floor when you book.
Can I book a Saturday?
Yes. We work seven days a week, and a weekend visit costs the same as a weekday one.
How long does a double oven take?
About two hours, including the time to put it back together, heat it and let you look inside.
