The High Street runs along the line of a causeway across the marshes that Queen Matilda, wife of Henry I, ordered in 1110, together with an arched bridge over the River Lea.
Towers on an old market road
The Stratford end has its own railway history. Stratford Bridge station opened there in June 1847, and was renamed Stratford Market in 1880, after the Great Eastern Railway opened a wholesale fruit and vegetable market beside it to rival Spitalfields. Parking on the Halo side of the High Street
The Halo and the streets on its side of the road, Rick Roberts Way among them, are in Newham's Stratford South West zone, set up in September 2008. According to the council's restriction table, permit hours there are short: 10am to noon, Monday to Friday. On West Ham home match days and London Stadium event days the zone is controlled from 8am to 9pm. Warton Road, across the High Street, is in the stricter Stratford Central zone. Only from 10am to noon on weekdays, plus 8am to 9pm on match and stadium event days. Yellow lines and other street signs still apply at all times.
