The people who actually live on the Strand mostly live just behind it, on the Adam brothers' grid dropping towards the river. John Adam Street and Robert Street went up between 1768 and 1772, and what sits there now is period conversion and old office space turned into flats, The Little Adelphi being the obvious one with 66 apartments carved out of former government offices. Kitchens there are galleys. One wall, no window, the oven built in at eye level or under the hob with a couple of inches of clearance either side, which is the bit that decides how long a job takes rather than anything to do with the grease itself.

Integrated singles, sixty centimetres, in a housing unit measured for the appliance and nothing else. Nearly every extractor between Charing Cross and Savoy Court is a recirculating one with a charcoal filter, because a conversion this deep into a listed terrace has no honest route to an outside wall, and that is why the filter clogs quicker here than in a Victorian house with a proper duct. Getting the van near a Strand address
The Strand is the A4 and a red route, so stopping on it is not a plan. We use the side streets down towards the Embankment and carry the racks in. The Little Adelphi has two levels of underground parking, which sounds helpful until you meet the height barrier. Give us the door code and the floor.

Questions we get on the Strand
My oven is built into a tall unit. Can you still take it apart?
Usually. The door splits where the design allows, and the shelves, trays and side runners come out regardless and go into the heated tank in the van. If the hinges are seized we leave it whole and clean the glass in place.
Will the flat smell of chemicals afterwards?
No. The caustic work happens in the tank outside. Indoors it is non-caustic products by hand on the cavity, fan cover and glass.
Can you come at the weekend?
We work seven days. Sunday mornings are the quietest slot this side of Covent Garden, so they go first.
