Over 100,000 passengers used Stoneleigh station in 1933. By 1935 the yearly count had passed 300,000, as the fields on both sides of the line filled with houses, and in 2024-25 the station logged about 807,000 entries and exits.
Two estates either side of the railway
John Jeffries Stone bought about 1,100 acres and four farms in 1860, and in 1882 his trustees sold a mansion called Stoneleigh, built on the site of one of them, Bowling Green Farm, close to what is now Ewell Park Way. His will recommended that the land be sold only as building land, and the real change from farmland to housing came in the 1930s. The station was to have been called Stoneleigh Park; the second word was dropped before it opened.
The Stoneleigh Estate, east of the line, was going up quickly by 1933. The first block of about 18 shops on the south side of the Broadway was finished by November 1933, and 15 more followed in 1934, along with the shops in Station Approach. The Stoneleigh Hill Estate, west of the line on the old Cold Harbour Farm, came last. Its land was cut into plots and sold to a number of builders, which is why one road can hold several versions of the 1930s house. A Wimpey advertisement painted on a wall visible from the platform offered a detached house for £728 freehold, or 17s 5d a week.
Semis on the Stoneleigh Hill side
Stoneleigh Park Road, Newbury Gardens and Cunliffe Road, west of the station, are in Auriol ward. At the 2021 Census the ward had 1,523 households, and 76.8% of them lived in a semi-detached house; just 5.6% were in a purpose-built flat. 88.1% owned their home, and 44.3% owned it outright.
A semi of that decade was usually built with a small kitchen at the back. Where one has been extended or opened up to the dining room, there is usually room for a double oven or a 90cm range. Whatever the cooker, the racks, trays, side runners and fan cover come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, while the cavity and the door glass are degreased by hand in the kitchen. Dust sheets go down before anything comes apart.

Yellow lines on Stoneleigh Park Road since September 2026
On-street parking here is regulated by Surrey County Council. Its 2026 parking review for Epsom and Ewell ended in an order that came into force on 14 September 2026. It put no-waiting-at-any-time lines on parts of Stoneleigh Park Road (the proposal was for the stretch opposite the Cunliffe Road junction), Cunliffe Road and Newbury Gardens. On Park Avenue West, near the bypass roundabout, waiting is now banned on weekdays from 7.30am to 9.30am and from 4pm to 6.30pm along the restricted length.
The team needs somewhere to park close to the door. A drive is ideal. Otherwise read the lines outside the house before the day, and tell us the road when you book; the borough council also runs a car park at Stoneleigh Parade, paid by RingGo only.
Stoneleigh oven cleaning questions
Do you cover both sides of the station?
Yes. The Broadway side has KT17 postcodes (the library at No. 1 Stoneleigh Broadway is KT17 2JA), and Stoneleigh Park Road and most of the streets west of the line are KT19. The price list is the same on both sides, and the rest of the borough is on our Epsom page.
Can the hood be cleaned at the same visit as the oven?
Yes, and with the hob as well it is one of the combined prices above. The extractor hood cleaning page explains what is done to the hood.
How long will it take?
About 90 minutes for a single oven, about 2 hours for a double and 2 to 3 hours for a 90cm range. At the end the oven is heated and you look inside before we pack up.
Can I cancel if plans change?
Yes. Cancelling is free up to 24 hours before the visit, and weekend slots cost the same as weekdays.

Said after the sign-off
Nice hardworking lads that always do a good job. We used them for our old flat when moving out and for the new one now, both jobs were done very professionally. My wife is very impressed with the results and would recommend them to friends and family.
Once again a great job guys, I will see you in a couple of months.
Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
