The English Place-Name Society records Stonecot Hall, in the parish of Sutton, as Stonecorte in 1373 and Stonecourt in 1449, and reads the name as a court or house built of stone. Stonecot Hill is now the A24, which follows the Roman Stane Street out of London towards Chichester, and it gives its name to the Sutton council ward around it.

Parking off the A24 at Stonecot Hill
Stonecot Hill is the A24, a main road, so a van is more likely to park on a side street. Beeches Road, Morley Road and Woodstock Avenue do not appear on Sutton's parking checker, the council's tool for seeing whether a street is in a parking zone and whether an address is eligible for a permit. The signs on the street still have the last word, so give us the road name when you book. Close by, Aragon Road (to the west) and Wolsey Crescent (to the north) are already Merton, in its Lower Morden ward, and Merton's rules apply there.
