Stockwell splits two ways for a job like ours. There are the nineteenth-century terraces from when this was a smart suburb, now mostly flats, and there are the big estates. Stockwell Park was built between 1967 and 1971 with over 950 homes, and its flats are single built-in ovens almost every time. A whole house kept as one family home might run a double oven or a range; a converted flat is usually the single.
Victorian terraces and the estate flats
On the estate side, Stockwell Park, Stockwell Gardens and the Studley estate, the built-in single is the norm, so that is our commonest booking here. The racks and runners soak in the heated tank in the van while the cavity is degreased by hand indoors. South Lambeth Road is the heart of London's biggest Portuguese community, roughly 9,000 Portuguese speakers by the last census, and the flats behind those bakeries get proper home cooking, which is the sort of built-up oven the tank is for.
Parking near the station and the CPZ
Stockwell station sits on the Northern and Victoria lines, and the streets close to it are tight for the van. Lambeth controls parking across this part of the borough, so we buy a paid bay or use your visitor permit and carry the parts in. The tank stays in the van, so we do not need to be right outside your door.
