The Trinity Green almshouses on Mile End Road were built in 1695 by the Corporation of Trinity House for twenty-eight decayed masters and commanders of ships, or their widows. Stepney Green Gardens appeared on John Rocque's 1746 map as part of Mile End Green, and the plane trees over them went in around the 1870s, after a campaign in 1872 stopped developers taking the last strip. The conservation area dates from January 1973.
Estate flats outnumber the period houses
The Blitz took more than a third of Stepney's housing and the slum clearances of the 1960s replaced most of the remaining streets with tower blocks and estates, so the flat you are booking from is far more likely to be council or housing-association stock than a Georgian survivor on the Mile End Road. The Ocean Estate is the big one. Its regeneration ran to about £200 million and covered half a mile from Mile End Road down to Aston Street, with roughly 800 new homes built and another 1,000 refurbished. Kitchens of that vintage are where a built-in double oven at £110 turns up most often. The early Victorian houses round the garden square at Arbour Square sit at the other end, and flats converted out of them tend to hold one oven under the worktop.
The tank never comes indoors
Racks, shelves, trays and side runners lift out and go down to a heated tank in the van. The cavity, fan cover and door glass are done by hand indoors with non-caustic products, so there is no smell left afterwards. Tower Hamlets runs Stepney inside parking Zone C, controlled Monday to Friday. That has no bearing on the price. No call-out fee applies inside the North and South Circular.

Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
Arrived promptly and did a great job cleaning the oven, hob and extractor. They look like new now and for a very reasonable price too.
