Part of a cast iron oven survives at the entrance to 20 High Street. Spelthorne's 2024 appraisal of the village conservation area reads it, with the retained shop fascia at No. 22 on the corner of Church Approach, as evidence of traditional commercial activity in the High Street.
Listed houses round Stanwell's village green
The conservation area was first drawn in October 1972. It covers the old village and runs right up to Heathrow's Southern Perimeter Road. Its centre is the green, where the High Street meets Church Approach and Oaks Road. St Mary's Church, listed Grade I, has an early 14th-century chancel and a 15th-century west tower, and was restored in 1862, by Teulon, and again in 1903. Inside is Nicholas Stone's marble monument to Lord and Lady Knyvett; the listing says Lord Knyvett arrested Guy Fawkes. The brick school that Lord Knyvett founded went up in about 1624, with separate doors for boys and girls, and is listed Grade II*.
The bigger houses stand round the green. Dunmore House, No. 40, dates from about 1720 and is Grade II*; Brook Cottage, No. 25, has a red brick front of the mid to late 18th century; the Vicarage at No. 42 is late 18th or early 19th century. On Oaks Road, Perry Green (No. 28) is timber-framed with painted brick infill and goes back to the 16th and 17th centuries. The Wheatsheaf, the listed inn on the corner of Park Road and Town Lane, got permission in 2023 to become homes.
However old the house, the cooker inside it is usually a good deal younger, so tell us what it is when you call. The routine stays the same in a listed building: dust sheets first, then racks, trays and side runners out to be soaked and cleaned separately, while the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand indoors.

Stanwell grew fast after the war. The appraisal maps 1940s houses at the west end of Park Road and 1950s houses either side of Town Lane. In the Census area that takes in Oaks Road, Stanwell Gardens, Russell Drive and the west end of the High Street (Spelthorne 001A), 38.8% of the 681 households lived in a semi-detached house in 2021 and 26.3% in a purpose-built block of flats. Renting was split evenly, 18.5% privately and 18.5% from a social landlord (16.0% a housing association or similar, 2.5% the council).

Parking for the van on Falcon Drive
Surrey County Council's 2024 parking review for Spelthorne puts double yellow lines on the north side of Falcon Drive, from either side of the Church View care home entrance up to Lancaster Close, which leaves parking on that stretch to the south side. The council decided in January 2026 to go ahead, and it was still putting that review's lines on the ground during 2026. On other streets, read the signs, and give us the road name when you book; the team needs somewhere to park near your door.

Yes, well before we arrive. It has to be cool for the hand cleaning inside, and we also need one working socket.
