Half the work here is in a subdivided villa
The St Margarets Estate was laid out in 1854 as one of the first garden suburbs, and the big three and four storey houses it left behind have mostly been carved into flats. That is the pattern that decides our day. A converted upper flat tends to have a small integrated single oven fitted into a kitchen that was a bedroom eighty years ago, with no room to swing a door, so we split the door where the design allows and carry the racks down to the tank in the van rather than working around them in a two-metre galley.
The intact Victorian and Edwardian semis nearer Moormead and the River Crane are the other half. Those kitchens are usually rear extensions with a freestanding cooker or a 90cm range against the party wall. We do a fair number of double ovens in the St Margarets Estate houses where the kitchen was redone in the last decade.
Parking depends which side of the railway you are on
St Margarets is not one parking zone, it is several, and they do not agree. Zone S3, St Margarets Riverside, is only controlled from 10am to noon on weekdays. Zone S2, St Margarets North, runs 10am to 4.30pm. An afternoon booking on the riverside side needs no permit at all. Four streets north, it does.

Questions from St Margarets customers
My letting agent wants the oven done before check-out. Do you leave anything in writing?
Yes. We heat-test the oven and sign it off, and you get a receipt naming the property and the work done, which is what the check-out clerk wants to see.
Will you get the oven out of a fitted housing without damaging the units?
Usually. Most integrated singles are held by two or four screws in the frame. If the housing is too tight to pull the oven safely we clean it in situ, and it takes a little longer.
Do you work weekends?
Seven days. Saturday mornings go first around here, so ring ahead.
