Spring Grove is a short road of roughly 38 households off Thames Road, and W4 3NH covers most of it. It sits inside Strand on the Green, one of Chiswick's four medieval villages and a conservation area, on the north bank between Kew Bridge and Chiswick Bridge. The Maltings flats are on the road itself. Average prices here run to about £875,000, which tells you the housing is period rather than new, and period is what governs the kitchens.
Listed cottages set the working conditions
Some of the riverside houses are Grade II listed and eighteenth century, one of them a cottage from around 1752. A single is £77 and about ninety minutes. A double is £110 and nearer two hours. If there is a two-oven AGA in one of the river houses, that is £143, and it is the same figure we would quote for one in Ealing. No premium loading for a W4 riverside address.
Parking is tight
Thames Road is narrow with shops along it, the towpath side has no room at all, and Hounslow runs the permit bays. The van has to be close enough to walk the parts back and forth, so where it goes is worth two minutes on the phone when you book. Kew Bridge and Chiswick stations are both a short walk from here.
Do you work in the listed houses on Strand on the Green?
Yes. Nothing we use indoors is caustic and the heavy soaking happens in the van, which is the reason for running it that way in old houses.
Is this the same Spring Grove as the one in Isleworth?
No, and it catches people out. This one is the Chiswick road off Thames Road, in the Chiswick Riverside ward. The Isleworth one is TW7. We cover both.
Do you clean the door glass?
Where the door splits, yes, both faces of the inner glass. Some doors are sealed units and those get cleaned as they are.
