South Norwood has two shopping streets, unusual for one SE postcode: the High Street and Portland Road along the A215. Behind both sit the Victorian and Edwardian terraces we spend most of our days in, the kind with a rear kitchen extension and a freestanding cooker jammed against the back wall. Many of these houses have been split into flats or let room by room, so the ovens work hard.
