South Harrow's shops line Northolt Road, the A312. Harrow Council's 2024-25 profile of the district centre counts about 118 shopfronts, among them seven grocers, two butchers and twelve hair and beauty businesses, with the Piccadilly line station at the northern end.
South Harrow station and the line through Roxeth
In 1903 the District Railway began an electric service from Park Royal to Roxeth, and the station it opened there was called South Harrow; a year later the line ran on to Uxbridge. The Piccadilly line reached South Harrow in 1932. The station you use today, by Charles Holden, opened in 1935, its brick walls and long strips of glazing stepping up under flat concrete roofs to the raised platforms. The Victoria County History puts that first station at Roxeth; the old hamlet of Roxeth lies up the slope to the north-east.
Flats along and behind Northolt Road
Harrow council built flats here after the Second World War. The estates the Victoria County History lists in South Harrow include 132 flats on Alexandra Avenue, 77 flats and houses at Brookside and 46 flats and maisonettes on Northolt Road.
The census area behind the shops at the north end (Harrow 027F), which takes in Brember Road, Stanley Road and Sherwood Road, had 817 households in 2021: 74.1% of them lived in a purpose-built block of flats and 50.2% rented privately. Roxeth ward as a whole had 8,426 people per square kilometre in 2021, against 5,175 across Harrow.

Parking in the South Harrow zones
The council's parking map (read on 5 October 2026) puts many of the side streets in zone M, South Harrow, among them Eastcote Avenue, St Margarets Avenue, Brember Road and part of Roxeth Green Avenue. Zone M is controlled from 10am to 11am and from 2pm to 3pm, Monday to Saturday. Stanley Road and Sherwood Road, nearest the shops, are mostly zone M1, controlled from 10am to 9pm, Monday to Saturday.
Harrow's CPZ page says to follow the times on the street signs, so check the plate on your road. A bay close to your door saves the team time on the job.
