By the late 1600s Sidcup was a cluster of houses round the Black Horse Inn, opened in about 1692, and a forge at the top of what is now Sidcup Hill.

Frognal, south of the town
Frognal House, off Frognal Avenue, is listed Grade II* and has the remains of a 15th-century timber-framed building, with later brick ranges; its later owners included Thomas Townshend, Viscount Sydney, who died in 1800. In 1917 Harold Gillies opened the Queen's Hospital there, the first in the world dedicated to treating facial injuries. Queen Mary's Hospital now stands on Frognal Avenue. Bexley's controlled parking list puts the whole High Street, with St John's Parade, Invicta Parade and Market Parade, in its Sidcup Town Centre zone, together with Back Road, Hadlow Road, Black Horse Road, Church Road and The Green. Many streets towards the station sit in a separate Sidcup Station zone. The list gives no hours. The council describes all-day control as typical of town centres, but the hours that count are the ones on the sign where your zone begins.
