The Grampians, the ten-storey block of flats just south of the Green on Shepherds Bush Road, was built in the mid-1930s on the line of an old railway embankment, which is why it reaches so far back from the street.
Mansion blocks and 1930s flats on the south side
The council's conservation profile lists the blocks that face the Green from the south. Granville Mansions, on the corner with Shepherds Bush Road, dates from 1895: five storeys plus a mansard, red brick, with shops on the ground floor. Romney Court is a six-storey 1930s block in the International Style, with shops either side of an Art Deco porch and a full-height window in the central bay that marks its lifts and main stair. Nos. 47 to 51 Shepherds Bush Green are four-storey houses from the 1870s, given over to hotels and other commercial use when the council wrote its profile, and the only survivors of a terrace that lined the whole south side until the Second World War. The Grampians has since been listed at Grade II.

The Empire and the west side
On the west side of the Green, the Empire at No. 56 was built in 1903 to a design by Frank Matcham and is listed Grade II. The BBC bought it in 1953 and used it as a studio for years before it became a music venue. At the east end of the Green stands the Grade II listed war memorial of 1922 by H C Fehr. Renting in Addison ward
The south side of the Green is in Addison ward, which had 3,787 households at the 2021 Census. 41.9% rented privately, 29.3% rented from the council or a housing association and 27.6% owned. 52.4% lived in a purpose-built block of flats and 33.7% in part of a converted house. Zone C: 90 minutes, 8.30am to 11pm
The south side of the Green and the mansion blocks are in Hammersmith and Fulham's zone C. The council lists it as controlled Monday to Sunday, 8.30am to 11pm, with a maximum stay of 90 minutes. That is about the length of a single-oven clean and shorter than a double, so tell us the building when you book, and whether it has any off-street space, and we plan the van around it.
