The two Shadwell stations, DLR and Overground, sit right next to each other, and most of our work is a short hop either side of them. The estates around Watney Market hold a lot of built-in single ovens, fitted in the 1970s and 80s rebuild and replaced once or twice since. Down by Shadwell Basin, the flats the London Docklands Development Corporation put up in 1987 are still going, and along Wapping Lane the newer blocks like Binnacle House add more.

It is mostly flats here, and mostly built-in singles. Family kitchens on the estates get heavy use, so the base and door glass carry real build-up by the time we are called. Some larger flats run a 90cm range cooker, which is a different price and a longer job. The rental turnover along Cable Street and Wapping Lane brings a steady run of end-of-tenancy cleans, where the oven has to pass a checkout before the deposit is settled.

How we clean it
Racks, trays and runners lift out and soak in the heated tank in the van, so none of the caustic mess reaches your flat. The cavity, fan cover and door glass are cleaned by hand with non-caustic products, which leaves no smell, and where the door allows we split it to clear the film between the panes. The oven is heat-tested and signed off before we leave. Ninety minutes for a single, nearer two hours for a double.
Parking and the ULEZ
Parking in E1 is tight, and the streets around Watney Street sit in a Tower Hamlets controlled zone during the day, so we plan where the van goes and carry the parts in. Shadwell is inside the ULEZ. Neither adds to your bill.
