A tailoring street with kitchens on the top floors
Savile Row was laid out between 1731 and 1735 on the Burlington Estate, named after Lady Dorothy Savile, and it started as houses. Tailors reached the street by 1803, then cut glass frontages and lightwells into the fronts to get daylight onto the cutting boards, and the lower floors have been workrooms since. Which leaves the domestic side where you would expect. Above the shop. Small flats, a fitted single oven, sometimes only a combination microwave doing the lot.
Two kinds of booking come off this street
One is the flat above a shopfront on the Row or round on Clifford Street, where the oven is a built-under single at £77. The other is the pied-a-terre, and on those a Mayfair combination microwave at £22 is often the only thing that needs doing, because the oven under it has never been switched on. Neither is a family kitchen.

The dip tank stays in the van
Racks, shelves and side runners lift out and soak in a heated tank in the van, while the cavity, the fan cover and the door glass are degreased by hand with non-caustic products, which matters more than usual in a narrow building where the flat shares a staircase with a workroom full of cloth.
Getting the van near the Row
Savile Row runs parallel to Regent Street, from Conduit Street down to Vigo Street, and it is not wide. So it is a bay on Boyle Street or Old Burlington Street, then the parts get carried in. This sits inside the ULEZ and the Congestion Charge zone, £18 a day since 2 January 2026, and neither shows up on your bill. Number 3 is worth knowing about if you are driving in: the Beatles bought that Georgian building for £500,000 in 1968 and played on its roof in January 1969, and Apple said in May 2026 it is reopening the place to the public in 2027, so the pavement outside will not get quieter.
Can you get to a top-floor flat above a tailor?
Yes. Only the removable parts travel, so it is two trips down the stairs rather than equipment up.
Will there be a smell in the building afterwards?
No. Nothing caustic is opened indoors.
Do you charge Mayfair prices?
No. A single oven is £77 on Savile Row and £77 anywhere else we work, with no premium-area surcharge and no call-out fee inside the North and South Circular.
How long does a job take?
A single is about ninety minutes, a double around two hours. Heat-tested before we go.
