Sands End, the riverside corner of Fulham, was once part of the Town Meadows, low land by the Thames that flooded and was cut through by creeks. Wharves and works went up through the 1890s, and the council's conservation area profile describes it as fully industrial by the 1916 Ordnance Survey.
Townmead Road after the power station
Fulham's borough council made its own electricity on Townmead Road. Once the power station had been sold for demolition, the stripping of its asbestos was argued over in the House of Commons on 28 July 1983. Regent on the River now stands on the site of the main building, east of William Morris Way: four eight-storey blocks, three of them joined by an extra storey in their steep roofs. Off Imperial Road, the Imperial Gas Works was set up in the 1820s. Its Gasholder No. 2, built in 1829 and 1830, is listed Grade II*, and its developer, St William, calls it the oldest known surviving gasholder in the world. Two council towers and the streets behind
Away from the river the homes are older, and two council towers rise over them:

- On Wandsworth Bridge Road. 21 storeys and 76 flats, approved by Fulham Borough Council in 1963; two seven-storey blocks beside it have since been pulled down.
- Jepson House
- On Pearscroft Road, the tower of the Bulow Court estate. 18 storeys and 67 flats, approved by the London County Council in 1962.
The council's ward profile also names the Townmead estate. North-west of Townmead and Carnwath Roads, the conservation area profile describes mostly two-storey terraced houses built between 1870 and 1910.
The census area round Barton House and the river end of Wandsworth Bridge Road, known as Hammersmith and Fulham 025D, had 630 households in 2021. Of those, 47.1% rented from the council or a housing association, 22.9% rented privately and 24.4% owned, while 53.8% lived in a purpose-built block and 20.1% in a terraced house. Parking for the van in zone Z
On the council's parking map, Stephendale Road, Broughton Road and Pearscroft Road by Jepson House are in zone Z, and so is the Barton House side of Wandsworth Bridge Road; the zone boundary runs down the road, and the far side is zone Q. The council's zone times table gives zones Q and Z the same hours, Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm, with parking free outside them. The estate roads of Chelsea Harbour, at the ward's eastern edge, sit outside every council zone on the same map, so ask the concierge or the managing agent where a visiting van can stop. Wherever you live, the signs in your street give the final word on hours.

In zone Z, yes: Saturday is controlled from 9am to 5pm like a weekday. Sunday is uncontrolled all day, and a weekend visit costs the weekday price either way.
How long does a double oven take?
About 2 hours, against about 90 minutes for a single. At the end the oven is reassembled and heated, and you look inside before anything is packed away.
