Most of the land between Bishop's Road and the railway had been built over by 1855; the exception was the site of Penny's house, taken for Royal Oak station, which opened in 1871.

In Bayswater ward, which takes in these streets, 27.0% of the 6,209 households lived in part of a converted house at the 2021 Census, and 57.9% in a purpose-built block. A flat on the third floor of a converted terrace usually has a narrow kitchen with a built-in single and a long stair down to the street. Everything that lifts out comes out and is soaked and cleaned separately; the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand indoors, on dust sheets.

Parking in sub-zone B3, and when it is free
On Westminster's resident-bay map, Porchester Square, Orsett Terrace and Porchester Road are in sub-zone B3, and Gloucester Terrace is the edge of it; Westbourne Terrace, to the east, is B5. The council's hours from March 2026 differ between the two. In B3, paid bays and single yellow lines are controlled 8.30am to 6.30pm on weekdays and 8.30am to 1.30pm on Saturdays, and resident bays from 8.30am to 10pm every day. In B5, paid bays run on until 6.30pm on Saturdays too.
Westminster runs no on-street visitor permit scheme, so the van pays for a bay during controlled hours. A Saturday afternoon or a Sunday in B3 leaves the single yellow lines free, at the weekday price for the clean.
