Six roads meet at the old hamlet centre at the bottom of Roxeth Hill. Christ Church has stood partway up it since 1862, designed by George Gilbert Scott, and a Wesleyan Chapel built after 1817 ended as an elementary school.
A moated manor became a council estate
The medieval moated manor survived here until the middle of the twentieth century, and the site it stood on now carries council housing. That is the most useful thing to know about the kitchens in this part of HA2, because mid-century estate flats were built with a standard cooker recess, a fitted single oven under a four-ring hob, and no extraction beyond a window. No group here is anywhere near a majority
At the 2011 census the Roxeth ward held 11,621 people, and the largest ethnic group was White British at 23.1 per cent, with Other Asian second at 22 per cent and Indian at 20 per cent. That is about as evenly split as a London ward gets, and in practice it means the cooking varies house to house, so the soiling in an oven off Northolt Road is not predictable from the street it sits on. The name outlived the hamlet
Roxeth probably comes from Rooks Heath, and the word survives in Roxeth First and Middle Schools, Rooks Heath School, once Roxeth Manor Secondary, and Christ Church Roxeth. Roxonian Football Club formed in 1933 and is now Harrow Borough, playing at Earlsmead Stadium on former common land. The railway went the other way: South Harrow and Roxeth station opened in 1926 and became Northolt Park in 1929.
