The Great Eastern Railway opened Rectory Road station on 27 May 1872, the day its new double track from Hackney Downs reached Stoke Newington, with the rest of the branch following on to Edmonton that July. Little of that survives. The ticket office, street buildings, staircases and platform shelters all date from the mid-1980s and were paid for by the Greater London Council. It is on the Weaver line now.
Rectory Road is a street before it is a district
There is no Rectory Road high street. The road was the northern end of Shacklewell Lane, the old way from Dalston up to Stoke Newington Common, and it took its present name once the railway came and the market gardens went under houses. Around it is West Hackney: late-Victorian terraces along Brooke Road, Evering Road, Foulden Road and Amhurst Road, mostly cut into upper and lower flats, with post-war council blocks over them.
The Northwold Estate is the biggest single piece of it
Northwold, off Northwold Road, runs to about 580 homes, built in the 1930s and extended in the 1950s, and stock-transferred from Hackney Council to the Guinness Partnership in 2009. Guinness announced a regeneration in 2016, residents fought it, and by 2018 the demolition plans were dropped; the approved scheme puts up to 73 new homes around the existing blocks with none of the 580 pulled down. Interwar estate kitchens are compact and the cooker is nearly always a single, which is the standard dip-tank clean at £77.
Zone R runs from 7am to 11am
Hackney gives Rectory Road a controlled parking zone of its own, lettered R, running Monday to Friday from 7am to 11am and no longer. That is among the shortest windows in the borough. Upper Clapton next door is Zone U, Monday to Saturday 8.30am to 6.30pm. ULEZ applies and the van is compliant. No call-out fee inside the North and South Circular.

Does the short parking zone change my appointment time?
No. Zone R is controlled only from 7am to 11am on weekdays, so the bays open up from late morning.

Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
