Villas on Paddenswick Road
The council's profile of the Ravenscourt and Starch Green conservation area describes Paddenswick Road as a wide street of terraces and paired villas in stock brick with stucco detailing, built between 1830 and 1860, where the front gardens matter to its character. Ravenscourt Road runs along the east side of the park, and at Nos. 41 to 93 it has a three-storey terrace with basements that the council calls the most substantial early development on that side.
George Scott, who owned Ravenscourt House and its grounds, encouraged building along the edges of the park in the early 19th century and kept tight control of how the houses looked. The London and South Western Railway opened a station at Shaftesbury Road, now Ravenscourt Park, in 1869, and the fields and nurseries began to fill with houses. The estate was bought for public use in 1887 and the grounds opened as a park in 1888; the house itself was too badly damaged by incendiary bombs in 1941 to be refurbished and was demolished.
Flats and whole houses in Ravenscourt ward
The old villas are only part of the picture. In Ravenscourt ward at the 2021 Census, 50.7% of the 3,077 households lived in a purpose-built block of flats, 18.7% in a terraced house and 8.4% in a semi. Tenure was split three ways: 37.2% rented privately, 25.1% rented from the council or a housing association, and 35.6% owned.
The two kinds of home tend to have different cookers. A paired villa still lived in as one house can have the room for a built-in double or a 90cm range cooker, which takes 2 to 3 hours to clean; a flat in a block more often has a built-in single, about 90 minutes. Either way the racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, and the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand in the kitchen, on dust sheets.

Parking zones either side of the park
On the council's zone map, Paddenswick Road, Ravenscourt Road and the streets east of the park are in zone L, and the streets west of the park are in zone M. Both are controlled Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, though the council lists three zone M streets (Cromwell Avenue, Rivercourt Road and Weltje Road, the last two north of the Great West Road) separately, controlled every day from 8:30am to 10pm with a 2-hour limit.
