Two kinds of kitchen, five minutes apart
Walk south off Bishop's Bridge Road and you are on the Hallfield Estate, fourteen blocks and a laundry listed Grade II in 2011, laid out by Tecton under Lubetkin and finished by Lasdun across the 1950s. The kitchens there are still the original galley footprint, so it is usually a freestanding 60cm cooker. Five minutes down Queensway there is Whiteleys, the listed old department store rebuilt with 139 homes in it, and every one of those has an integrated oven behind a cabinet front.
Same postcode, completely different job.
Most of the work is the conversions in between
The mid-Victorian stucco terraces around Porchester Square, Cleveland Square and Moscow Road were cut into flats decades ago, and in a lot of them a Neff or Siemens single oven has been squeezed into an old chimney breast alcove. The hoods in those flats recirculate rather than vent, because there is nowhere to run a duct out through a stucco facade. Filters clog faster as a result.
Parking control ends at half six
The Bayswater bays run Monday to Friday 8.30am to 6.30pm and Saturday to 1.30pm. Queensway itself is hopeless by day. We take a pay bay on Porchester Gardens or Inverness Terrace and carry the racks and shelves out to the van, where they soak in the heated dip tank while the cavity and door glass are degreased by hand indoors.
Check-out work between tenancies
Bayswater has a heavy letting-agent presence and plenty of short international lets, so the oven gets handed over between people who barely used it and an inventory clerk who marks it down anyway. The integrated ovens in the new Whiteleys flats are the slowest, since the door and the fascia both come off first.

Questions from Bayswater customers
Can you reach a top-floor flat with no lift?
Yes. Most of the Porchester Square conversions are walk-ups and we have done plenty of fourth floors.
Do you do the hob and the hood at the same visit?
Usually. A hob is £23–28 and an extractor hood is £28 on top of the oven. With the recirculating hoods round here it is worth doing both.
How long are we without the oven?
Around ninety minutes for a single and two hours for a double. It is heat-tested and signed off before we leave.
Is parking on the Hallfield Estate a problem?
No. We stay on the road and walk in.

Nice hardworking lads that always do a good job. We used them for our old flat when moving out and for the new one now, both jobs were done very professionally. My wife is very impressed with the results and would recommend them to friends and family.
