Queensbury station opened on 16 December 1934, and its name was picked to pair with Kingsbury, the next stop south; there was no older village called Queensbury.

The station and Queensbury Station Parade sit in Brent's Queensbury ward. A short way west of the station you are in Harrow, in its Edgware, Kenton East or Centenary wards; across Stag Lane to the east, Barnet's Burnt Oak ward begins. The postcodes are just as mixed: Queensbury is split between four postal districts, HA3, HA7, HA8 and NW9.

Houses on the old Stag Lane aerodrome
Before the semis, the land east of the station was an airfield. Stag Lane was an airfield from 1915, became the base of the de Havilland Aircraft Company in 1920, and was sold for housing in 1933; the last flight left in July 1934. An Aerofilms photograph from January 1935 shows a housing estate under construction on the site, and contributors to the archive have picked out Mollison Way, Beverley Drive and Holyrood Gardens in it. Mollison Way is named after the airman Jim Mollison, and there is a De Havilland Road beside it.
A 1930s semi is likely to have a modest kitchen at the back, so today it may hold a 60cm cooker or a built-in single, or a double where the kitchen has been extended. A single takes about 90 minutes and a double about 2 hours. The racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately while the cavity, the fan cover and the door glass are cleaned by hand indoors.

Parking in Queensbury: one-hour zones on the Harrow side
On Harrow's zone map the painters' streets west of the station have short controls: Reynolds Drive (zone Q1) and Millais Gardens (Q3) from 11am to noon on weekdays, and Turner Road (Q4) from 11am to noon and 3pm to 4pm. Constable Gardens and Gainsborough Gardens have no zone. On the Brent side, Queensbury Station Parade, Essoldo Way are in zone QA, as is part of Calder Gardens, controlled 10am to 3pm, Monday to Saturday, while De Havilland Road and the roads around it are outside any zone.
The team needs somewhere to park for the whole clean. A one-hour window is easy to work around, so tell us your street when you ring and the parking is planned before the day.
