Farmland at Putney Vale was bought for burials in 1887, when the old Putney cemetery was full, and Putney Vale Cemetery opened on it in 1891. It was extended in 1909 and 1912, a crematorium was added in the 1930s, and the grounds now cover 17.9 hectares.

Many homes on the estate are now privately owned. The small census area (LSOA Wandsworth 023D) that covers Stroud Crescent, Pallister Terrace and the houses on Roehampton Vale is a little wider than the estate, but it shows the mix: in 2021, 61.6% of its 631 households lived in a purpose-built block. 46.8% owned their home, 29.9% rented privately and 22.3% rented from the council or a housing association.
