Thames Barrier Park, the seven hectares of grass and sunken garden right beside the station, sits on what was the PR Chemicals factory and one of the most polluted sites in the country, and decontaminating it took years before Groupe Signes and Patel Taylor, who had won the international competition to design it back in 1995, could see the place open in November 2000. The DLR came later, on 2 December 2005. Everything around it is newer still.
Silvertown Quays is nearly all recent build
There is almost no Victorian stock in walking distance of this platform. Barrier Point went up on Barrier Point Road off the A1020, and Royal Wharf added 3,385 homes on the riverside by Ballymore and Oxley, which means kitchens fitted in the last twenty years or so: an integrated single oven behind a matching door, an induction or ceramic hob, a hood over it. Those ovens are not old. They are usually just neglected, because a self-clean liner is not a self-clean oven and the pyrolytic cycle bakes the residue onto the fan cover rather than removing it. Oven cleaning done properly means the racks, shelves, trays and side runners come out to the heated tank in the van, and the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased indoors by hand with non-caustic products.
The Silvertown Tunnel toll is ours to pay
The Silvertown Tunnel opened on 7 April 2025, 1.4km of twin bore from this side of the river to the Greenwich Peninsula, and it is charged in both directions: £4 for a car or small van at peak, £1.50 off peak, nothing between 10pm and 6am. Our van pays that like everyone else. Your price does not change because of it, and there is no call-out fee inside the North and South Circular.

My oven has a pyrolytic setting. Do I still need you?
Often yes. The cycle chars what is inside the cavity but leaves ash, and it does nothing for the door glass, the runners or the trays.
Can you clean the glass between the door panels?
We split the door where the design allows and clean the inner faces. Some sealed units on newer builds cannot be opened safely, and we will tell you rather than force it.
Is the induction hob included in the oven price?
No, it is a separate £23–28 depending on the type. Worth doing at the same visit.
