Sundridge Park station on Plaistow Lane opened on 1 January 1878 under the name Plaistow, and only took its present name on 1 July 1894.

Plaistow Lodge is a century older. It stands on London Lane and was built about 1777 by Peter Thellusson, whose will, holding back his fortune for generations of descendants, led to the Accumulations Act 1800. The banker Walter Boyd lived there from 1822 to 1857. Its list entry records it as a school from 1896, and it is listed Grade II*.

Plaistow ward had 5,494 households. Most lived in houses: 29.6% in a terrace, 29.3% in a semi and 10.7% in a detached house, with 20.8% in a purpose-built block of flats. 65.0% owned their home and 18.3% rented privately. Another 16.1% rented socially: 803 households from a housing association or other social landlord, and 80 from the council.

Parking in the Burnt Ash Lane zones

Plaistow now means mainly the area along Burnt Ash Lane, and two residents' zones in Bromley's permit table carry that name. Zone G is controlled from 8.30am to 6.30pm, Monday to Saturday; zone J, Burnt Ash Lane (North), only from 11am to 1pm on weekdays. The table lists no streets, so check the signs on your road. In zone J a visit can be timed around those two hours. In zone G, ask whether a visitor voucher is available for the van. Give us the road when you call.
