The Christmas houses, 1901 to 1906
Christmas (1867-1936) trained as a joiner and worked as a builder and builder's merchant on Dartmouth Road. Letting a flat in Perry Vale
Nearly one household in four in the ward rented privately in 2021 (22.9%). Lewisham's selective licensing scheme runs from 1 July 2024 to 1 July 2029, and its designation one is named for the old Perry Vale ward, drawn before the 2022 boundary changes, so a privately let home here may need a licence; the council's map shows which streets are covered. None of the zones on Lewisham's table is named for Perry Vale, but zone C is named for Hindsley Place, a street in the ward, and runs Monday to Saturday, 8am to 6.30pm, so a Saturday visit near there can fall inside controlled hours. The council consulted on parking controls here, together with Bellingham, Forest Hill, Sydenham and others, until 16 June 2025, and says it is still going through the replies. So read the signs on your road and tell us if it has gone permit-only; the team needs somewhere to park.
