The Holly Grove conservation area, a planned 19th-century suburb just west of Rye Lane, owes a lot to George Choumert. He built South Street Terrace on Rye Lane in 1815, then Holly Grove, at the time called George Street, between 1816 and 1822.

Highshore Road (once Hanover Street), Elm Grove and Lyndhurst Way were added in the 1830s, and Lyndhurst Square was built round its own green in 1843. The railway to Peckham Rye then cut through the block between Holly Grove and Blenheim Grove, and the district filled fast: the appraisal gives 31,000 people for East Dulwich and the district round it, Peckham included, in 1871 and 82,000 twenty years later. South of the line, Chadwick Road is a run of two-storey terraces from a single development, and Choumert Road, named after George Choumert, has three-storey shops and a street market at its Rye Lane end.

Rye Lane ward, which takes in Peckham Rye station, Holly Grove and Choumert Road, had 6,220 households at the 2021 Census. Zone B parking, Monday to Saturday
Southwark's zone list names zone B for Peckham and gives its hours as 8.30am to 6.30pm, Monday to Saturday; outside those times permits are not needed. Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
