The lion houses on the Peterborough Estate are the reason our SW6 job mix looks nothing like the rest of west London. Jimmy Nichols started building them in 1888 and put terracotta lions on the gables, which are still there, and those houses stayed houses. Wide, deep, with a proper garden. When a family buys one they knock the back out and put in a 90cm range, or occasionally an AGA, and then they cook on it for twenty years.
The oven mix in SW6
Most of the period stock here went up in one 35-year burst after the District Line reached Fulham in 1880, so the houses are unusually alike and the kitchens are laid out in more or less the same place in each one. We clean more range cookers per hundred jobs in Parsons Green than anywhere else we cover, and we still get a handful of AGAs behind the lion houses off New King's Road every month, at £143 for a two-oven. Nearer Walham Green and Fulham Broadway the larger houses have been cut into flats and it goes back to integrated singles.
A two-hour double oven and a two-hour max-stay bay do not fit together.
Parking, and the conservation-area streets
Hammersmith and Fulham controls the parking here, and Zone F has bays capped at thirty minutes, an hour or two hours depending on the road, which is why we ask on the phone whether you have a visitor permit before we agree a slot. Much of Parsons Green and Hurlingham Park is a conservation area with Article 4 directions, so the streets are narrow, unaltered and full of cars. None of that changes the price.

Do you clean AGAs properly, or just wipe them?
The removable parts come out to the tank in the van and the rest is done by hand. We do not strip the enamel and we do not use caustic on it. Two-oven AGA is £143.
Is there a premium for an SW6 postcode?
No. Same fixed prices as everywhere else, quoted on the phone, and no call-out fee inside the North and South Circular.
Can you do the range and the extractor together?
Yes. Range at £114, hood at £28. Most of the Peterborough Estate kitchens have a proper ducted canopy over the range and they take a while.
Will the kitchen smell afterwards?
No. Non-caustic products indoors, caustic only in the van tank, and the oven is heat-tested before we go.
