The two ends of W2 give us two different jobs. Around Paddington Basin the flats are new-build, so it is almost always a single integrated oven wedged under a hob, often barely used because the owner eats out. Walk south to Norfolk Square and Sussex Gardens and the stucco terraces are 1840s Grade II, most of them now small independent hotels and B&Bs with their own guest kitchens, and the freestanding cookers behind those doors get a lot harder use.

How the clean runs

Parking here is the real planning job

All of W2 is a Westminster controlled parking zone, and the whole area falls inside central London ULEZ, so getting the van close enough to ferry racks to the tank takes thought before every visit. Sussex Gardens and Praed Street are wide but busy and heavily loading-restricted; the quieter mews and the smaller terraced streets off Norfolk Square are easier for a short stop. Over on the Hallfield Estate, the 1950s Lubetkin and Lasdun blocks south of Bishop's Bridge Road, we usually load on the estate approach roads rather than right at the block.
