Norfolk Square and Talbot Square, just south of the station, sit on the sites of two reservoirs of the Grand Junction Waterworks Company, filled in during the 1840s; Norfolk Square had its church from 1847 and was partly built up by 1855, and Talbot Square followed slightly later.

Talbot Square's first-class houses were a northward extension of residential Tyburnia, on the Bishop of London's Paddington estate. The Victoria County History, writing in 1989, describes most of the other sides of the two squares as mid 19th-century stuccoed terraces used mainly as hotels, with shops in London Street and Spring Street. West of Spring Street, Westbourne Terrace was begun in about 1840 and finished in 1856-60: long stucco terraces of four storeys and an attic over a basement, laid out as one of the area's two grand boulevards with Sussex Gardens.
A terrace house of that height, split into flats, usually means a compact kitchen several flights up. Stairs add to the time, so mention the floor when you book. The racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, and the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand in the flat.

The Census area that takes in Talbot Square, Spring Street and the south end of Westbourne Terrace (Westminster 016B) had 671 households in 2021. Parking in sub-zones B5 and B7
Edgware Road, at the east end, is a Transport for London red route. The two squares and London Street are Westminster's sub-zone B7: paid bays and single yellow lines are controlled 8.30am to 6.30pm, Monday to Saturday, and resident bays at all hours, every day. The station side, with Westbourne Terrace and Craven Road, is B5, where the paid bays keep the same hours and resident bays run 8.30am to 8.30pm daily.
Westminster sells no visitor permits for on-street parking, and a working van gets 20 minutes to load in a bay during controlled hours. For a clean, the van needs a paid bay or a zone B trade permit. On Sundays the paid bays in both sub-zones are free of controls.
