A street a van cannot use
Oxford Street already takes only buses, taxis and cycles between 7am and 7pm, Monday to Saturday. A works van has never been part of the day here. It is about to get stricter. The Oxford Street Development Corporation was set up on 1 January 2026 to run the transformation, and the scheme for the stretch from Orchard Street, which runs down the west flank of Selfridges, east to Great Portland Street closes it to private vehicles, buses, taxis, private hire, cycles, scooters and pedicabs, leaving servicing traffic a single window from midnight to 07:00. Nobody wants an oven cleaner in their kitchen at two in the morning. So the W1C residential work is done from the side streets, off Duke Street, Marylebone Lane and Orchard Street.
Who actually lives here
Fewer people than the pavement suggests, and they are stacked high. The flats on this stretch sit over retail, most reached through a plain door on a side elevation rather than off Oxford Street, and a good share are lets or company flats rather than long-term homes. Selfridges opened at number 400 in 1909 and is Grade II listed; the buildings either side carry the same upper-floor conversions. The ovens are integrated 60cm singles, almost without exception, and in a corporate let they get used for six months and handed back filthy.
The clean
Racks, shelves, trays and side runners soak in the heated tank in the van. Cavity, fan cover and door glass are done by hand indoors with non-caustic products, so the flat does not reek afterwards. Door split where the design allows, oven heat-tested, signed off before we leave. It is the strip-and-dip clean we run across Marylebone, unchanged for W1C.

No premium-area surcharge, no call-out fee inside the North and South Circular. Whatever the van spends getting to Duke Street is our problem. The oven needs to be empty and cold.

No. We work off the side streets now and will carry on doing that. The technician walks the last bit either way.
My tenancy ends Friday. Can you clean Thursday?
Usually yes, if you ring early in the week. Ninety minutes for a single. We can send a receipt for the agent.
Do you clean the hob at the same visit?
Yes, £23–28 depending on type. Induction and ceramic are the quick end; a gas hob with cast burner caps takes longer because those go in the tank too.
