Building Oxford Circus between 1816 and 1819 meant pulling down eight houses on the north side of Oxford Street and eleven on the south, and John Nash tried to rehouse their tenants in the new buildings round the junction. The four curved blocks there now were designed by Henry Tanner, went up between 1913 and 1928 and have been listed Grade II since 1973.
Homes a street or two back from the Circus
Homes around the junction are few, and the Census counts them in small numbers. At the 2021 Census, the output area on the north-west side of the Circus, around John Prince's Street, Holles Street and the east side of Cavendish Square, had 111 households. Of those, 82.0% were in a purpose-built block of flats, 45.9% owned their home and 50.5% rented privately, a much higher share of owners than the output area just south of Oxford Street around Regent Street and Hanover Square (21.3%).
About 300 metres west of the Circus, Harcourt House at 19 and 19a Cavendish Square was finished in 1909 as two joined mansion blocks of 14 flats each, with the kitchen and scullery at the back and both a service lift and a passenger lift. It is listed Grade II and now holds 25 flats. A kitchen at the back of a mansion flat often means a long walk to the front door, so tell us about any lift when you book. The racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately, while the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand in the kitchen.
Oxford Street goes traffic free from 26 October 2026
From Monday 26 October 2026 Oxford Street becomes traffic free between Orchard Street and Great Portland Street, the stretch that takes in Oxford Circus, and Transport for London says access to it may be affected from the evening of Sunday 25 October. The Mayor's plan closes it to private motorised vehicles, buses, taxis and private hire vehicles, cycles, scooters and pedicabs. Westminster council has warned that traffic could be pushed onto smaller neighbouring streets. For an oven clean that changes the route, not the job. The van parks on the side street closest to your entrance, so the name of that street is the most useful thing you can give us.

Three parking zones meet at Oxford Circus
On Westminster's zone map the Circus is where three zones touch: Oxford Street is the southern edge of zone F, and Regent Street divides zone E from zone G below it.

Westminster has no on-street visitor permit scheme, so a resident cannot hand the van a permit; it pays for a bay by app. Sunday is the one day all three zones' paid bays and single yellow lines are uncontrolled.
