The Olympia rebuild has no homes in it
The £1.3 billion rebuild of the 14-acre site opened to the public on 15 June 2026, according to its architects, Heatherwick Studio, with the hotels, offices and school opening in stages over the following year. Olympia's own announcement of 12 May 2026 gave the dates: the rooftop restaurants and bars on 15 June, the British Airways ARC music venue on 16 June and the Hyatt Regency hotel on 6 July, with the citizenM hotel due in early summer and the British Airways Theatre in 2027. Neither announcement lists any homes. The kitchens round Olympia are in the older streets behind the halls, around Blythe Road, all in Hammersmith and Fulham.
Tall terraces between Blythe Road and Milson Road
Those streets are Hammersmith and Fulham's Lakeside, Sinclair and Blythe Road conservation area (profile adopted in July 2017). Before the railway they were brickfields, market gardens and orchards lining Blythe Road; building took off in the late 1870s and the area was finished by 1900. The houses are big. On Maclise Road, beside the halls, Nos. 14 to 26 and 33 to 47 face each other as four-storey stock-brick terraces over basements. On Milson Road the bays of Nos. 107 to 119 step up slightly from house to house, so each looks a little taller than the last; No. 121 is a modern house built after wartime bombing.
The bombing hit hardest round Gratton Road, Porten Road, Milson Road and Blythe Road, and the gaps were filled after the war with blocks of flats, among them Calcott, Coleridge, Walpole, Brangwyn and Elgar Courts. Maclise Road also has the Olympic Garage, Joseph Emberton's multi-storey car park of 1936, built for 1,200 cars and claimed at the time to be the largest in Europe.
Converted flats and private lets in Brook Green ward
In Hammersmith and Fulham's Brook Green ward, which takes in Olympia and the streets behind it, 43.7% of the 3,872 households rented privately at the 2021 Census, against 35.3% who owned and 20.3% who rented from the council or a housing association. Almost a third (31.9%) lived in part of a converted or shared house.

Parking in zone B, every day until 11pm
The streets behind the halls, including Sinclair Road, Hazlitt Mews and Milson Road, are in Hammersmith and Fulham's parking zone B: controlled Monday to Sunday, 8.30am to 11pm, with a 90-minute maximum stay. That is about the length of a single oven clean, and shorter than a double. A resident with a council visitor permit can book a RingGo session for a visitor's vehicle in a bay outside the home, and the council sets no maximum stay on those sessions, which suits a longer job. Yes, at the weekday price. Zone B is controlled on Sundays too, so a visitor session is worth booking for the van; the council says weekend sessions in zone B cost nothing but must still be booked.
How long does a double oven take?
About 2 hours, against about 90 minutes for a single. At the end the oven is rebuilt and heated, and you look inside it before anything is packed away.
Can the glass between the door panes be cleaned?
Where the door design allows. The door is split only where its design allows; the cavity, door glass and seals are cleaned by hand, normally in your kitchen.
