Olympia is an exhibition hall on Hammersmith Road, not a neighbourhood, and the homes we are called to sit behind it rather than in it. The venue backs onto Blythe Road, and the housing that matters here is the late-Victorian terracing on Avonmore Road, Lisgar Terrace, Matheson Road, Stonor Road, Stanwick Road and Mornington Avenue. Those streets went up in the 1880s as the Morning Park Estate, built by the West London firm Gibbs and Flew, who went bankrupt and sold the rest of the land off, which is how Whiteley's depository came to be built on it. Edward Elgar lived at 51 Avonmore Road in 1890 and 1891. All of it falls in Avonmore and Brook Green ward.
What the housing here actually is
Ornamented Victorian terraces, many cut into flats. A conversion of that vintage tends to put the kitchen in a back addition or a rear room, with a freestanding cooker or one integrated oven, which is the standard clean at £77. Whole unconverted houses on the Morning Park streets are where range cookers appear. The £1.3bn redevelopment on the 14-acre site is offices, hotels, a theatre and a conference centre, so it adds very few kitchens, whatever it does to the pavements.

Six zones around Olympia extended their controls to Monday to Sunday, 8:30am to 10pm, with a two-hour maximum stay on pay-and-display and RingGo bays.
