Two kinds of kitchen either side of the junction
Walk south from the roundabout down Whitecross Street and the flats are Peabody: the trust built two estates either side of that street in 1883, the blocks were wrecked in the war, and what stands now opened in 1957 with plain rectangular kitchens and a freestanding or under-counter single. Walk the other way and you are at the Atlas Building, 40 storeys and 302 flats on the old Crown House site, where the oven is integrated at eye level and the hob is induction.
Same postcode. Completely different job.
A 1957 Peabody kitchen and a 2019 tower kitchen are twenty minutes apart on foot and nothing alike to clean.
The tower flats and the tech tenancies
In the City Road blocks the booking is almost always a single plus the induction hob in an Atlas Building flat, which puts the visit at £77 plus £23–28 and gets us out inside two hours. These flats churn. A lot are let to people working for the firms around the roundabout on one- or two-year contracts, so we get the same flat every couple of years with a new name on the door and a check-out date driving it.
Getting the van near the roundabout
City Road is the A501 and Old Street is the A5201, and since the roundabout was rebuilt as a straight signalled junction in October 2020 there is nowhere to stop on either. Our technician books a bay on Bath Street or off Whitecross Street instead, though on weekday lunchtimes the market stalls take the Whitecross Street kerb from about eleven. Concierge blocks are easier: they let us use the loading bay.

Do you clean integrated ovens in the new towers?
Yes. The racks and side runners come out and go down to the tank in the van; the cavity, fan cover and glass are done by hand at the flat.
Will the neighbours smell it?
No, because nothing caustic is opened indoors. That matters in a sealed tower with shared ventilation.
Do you charge more for a 30th floor flat?
No. Price is by oven, not by floor, and it is fixed on the phone.
How much notice do you need for an end of tenancy clean?
A day or two most weeks. Around quarter days and the end of the month, longer.

Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
