Old Harlow appears to have been laid out on purpose as a market town: in 1218 the abbots of Bury St Edmunds got leave for a Monday market, held on what is now Market Street, and a yearly fair on Mulberry Green.
Terraces, market infill and Mulberry Green
The old town was designated a conservation area in 1969, and the council's appraisal, adopted in December 2013, reads the streets like a timeline. The open market place was slowly built over, and some of that infill between Market Street and Fore Street was pulled down after 1960 and replaced with car parks. Between 1835 and 1850 a number of terraced houses went up on Market Street and Fore Street, and Harlow Mill station opened in 1842. In 1970 the High Street was pedestrianised and bypassed by Gilden Way, with Wayre Street built behind it as a loop road for parking and servicing, and its gaps were filled with blocks of flats over shops.
- Market Street and Fore Street
- Old market infill and the terraces of 1835-1850, built on the pavement edge.
- Bury Road and New Road
- Laid out between 1870 and 1901: terraces and semis on narrow plots with short gardens.
- Watlington Road and the east end of Mulberry Green
- Detached houses on more spacious plots with deeper gardens.

A narrow terrace or a flat over a shop usually has a compact kitchen, which is a general point about houses of that shape. The oven gets the same treatment whatever the room: dust sheets on the floor, the racks, trays and side runners taken out to be soaked and cleaned separately, and the cavity, the fan cover and the door glass degreased by hand.
Gilden Park and the census mix
North-east of the old town is Gilden Park. The Secretary of State approved 1,200 homes off Gilden Way in November 2012, with a school, shops and open space, to be built by Barratt, Persimmon and Taylor Wimpey; streets such as Linnet Grove, Hawfinch Crescent and Grebe Close got their postcodes in 2022. New houses of this kind often have a built-in oven, either a single under the worktop or a double in a tall unit; that is a general pattern, so say what yours is when you call.
Across Old Harlow ward the 2021 Census found an even spread of homes. Of 4,634 households, 28.5% lived in a semi, 28.4% in a terrace, 20.9% in a purpose-built flat and 20.0% in a detached house; 12.3% rented privately and 4.3% were shared owners. For a let ending, the end of tenancy oven cleaning guide deals with deposits, and the invoice can go to the letting agency.

Council car parks in Old Harlow
Harlow Council owns and maintains two car parks in the old town: Wayre Street, with 43 spaces, and Garden Terrace Road, with 48. At both, charges apply from Monday to Friday between 8am and 5pm and the first hour is free with a ticket; outside those hours parking is free, though you still take a ticket or register the stay. On the streets, the signs on your road say what is allowed. The team needs somewhere to park, so tell us the nearest place the van can stop.
Questions about oven cleaning in Old Harlow
Is Old Harlow a separate town?
No. It is the historic core of Harlow, in Harlow district with no parish council; the rest of the town has its own Harlow page.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes. We work seven days a week, weekends at the weekday price, and the two council car parks charge nothing at weekends.
How long does a double oven take?
About two hours, at £110. A single is closer to an hour and a half.

Said after the sign-off
Once again a great job guys, I will see you in a couple of months.
Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
Nice hardworking lads that always do a good job. We used them for our old flat when moving out and for the new one now, both jobs were done very professionally. My wife is very impressed with the results and would recommend them to friends and family.
