Oatlands Village has its own small centre on Oatlands Drive, between St Mary's Road and Vale Road, where most of the shops are former houses with flats or small offices over them. Elmbridge's design guide describes it as a community distinct from both Weybridge and Walton on Thames.
Flats on the old Oatlands Park land
North of the parade the ground drops to the Broad Water, a lake about 1.5km long in the grounds of Oatlands Park, whose house is now the Oatlands Park Hotel. The park shrank through the 20th century as parts of it were built on. The council's guide dates the housing set in it from the 1930s to the 1980s, including the two-storey houses of Vaillant Road, Churchill Drive and Marlborough Drive, and notes several three-storey blocks of flats on the north side of Oatlands Drive.
The census shows how far that has gone. In Elmbridge 011B, the census area that takes in Vale Road, Templemere and the hotel, 45.7% of the 759 households lived in a purpose-built block of flats in 2021 and only 7.4% in a detached house; 24.4% of households rented privately.
Flats in purpose-built blocks commonly have a fitted kitchen with a built-in single under the worktop, or a double in a tall housing. The racks, trays and side runners come out and are soaked and cleaned separately; the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand in the kitchen, on dust sheets. Templemere, the Span estate off Oatlands Drive
Templemere is 65 houses put up in about 1963-65 by Span Developments, to designs by Eric Lyons, among the big cedars of the old park. It was built in two phases: 18 pavilion houses and 18 town houses first, then 29 more town houses. Elmbridge made it a conservation area on 13 June 2017.
Two lines in the council's appraisal matter for a visit. The estate road is private, not adopted highway, and the 77 garages are grouped in parking courts at the edges of the estate. The appraisal says nothing about visitor parking, so find out where a van may stand before the day and tell us when you book.

- The oven locks and heats itself far above cooking temperature to burn grease in the cavity to ash. Racks and runners usually have to come out first, and grease between the panes of the door glass is out of its reach.
- Hand clean

On the public roads, read the signs in your road before you suggest a space. On the parade the shopfronts stand at the back of the pavement, so there is no forecourt in front of them. If your block has visitor bays, say so when you call.

Where can a van park on Templemere?
The road is a private one and not adopted highway, and the Templemere residents' society manages the communal areas and garage courts. The council's appraisal does not set a visitor rule, so ask the society or a neighbour what is allowed, then tell us when you book.
My flat on Oatlands Drive is on the top floor. Does that change anything?

Can the hob be done at the same visit?
Yes. A gas hob is £28 and a ceramic one £23, on top of the oven price.
Is Oatlands part of Weybridge?

Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
