Oakwood station opened in March 1933 as Enfield West. It gained 'Oakwood' as a suffix in 1934 and dropped 'Enfield' altogether in 1946.
A 1930s suburb at the edge of Trent Park
Charles Holden and C. H. James designed the station as a tall brick box with large panels of glass, and it is listed Grade II*. Houses came more slowly round Oakwood and Cockfosters than further south, but by 1937 building ran unbroken from the railway down to New Southgate. North of Bramley Road the farmland of the Trent Park estate survived, and in 1937 Southgate council agreed with Sir Philip Sassoon to keep the area south of the Enfield border as open space. The council had already bought Oakwood Park in 1927 and opened it in 1929.
Not all of the building was private. Southgate council put up one of its two main estates of council houses on old Chase land between Trent Gardens, Green Road and Reservoir Road.
At the 2021 Census, Oakwood ward had 3,258 households. 45.8% lived in a semi-detached house, 26.4% in a purpose-built block of flats and 12.7% in a detached house, and 67.9% owned their home. In a family-sized kitchen the oven is often a built-in double.

Parking near Oakwood station
The car park operator Saba, on its page for TfL's Oakwood rear station car park on Bramley Road (129 spaces), lists it as closed from 28 September 2026 to late 2030 for Piccadilly line upgrade work at Cockfosters depot, with reopening expected by the end of 2030. The same page shows the front car park, 0.07 miles away, as nearby. Streets near the station may see more parked cars at commuter times, so if you live close by, tell us the road when you book. On the council's zone map as archived in December 2022, the station and streets near it, such as Lakenheath and Belgrave Gardens, were in the Oakwood zone, controlled for one hour, 2pm to 3pm, Monday to Friday. Check the signs on your road before the visit.

Is Oakwood in Enfield or Barnet?
Enfield. The streets round the station fall in Enfield's Oakwood and Cockfosters wards; Barnet starts a little further west.
I have an AGA. What do I need to do?
Switch it off the night before so it is cool when we arrive. A two-oven AGA is £143 and takes about half a day.
Can I cancel if plans change?

Nice hardworking lads that always do a good job. We used them for our old flat when moving out and for the new one now, both jobs were done very professionally. My wife is very impressed with the results and would recommend them to friends and family.
Very satisfied with the service. They were slightly late at first but I got a call from customer service to let me know, and it was all fine. The oven man, as he called himself, arrived and worked very hard for a couple of hours. My oven now looks like it has never been used.
