We clean ovens across Norwood New Town, SE19, on the old streets between Eagle Hill and Oxford Road, seven days a week, from £77 for a single oven.
This was a walled estate. Built from 1840 to house working people, and later the men who put up the Crystal Palace on the hill above, it had five terraced streets inside the wall: Oxford Road, Naseby Road, Dover Road, Crystal Terrace and Eagle Hill. The wall came down in 1930. The streets did not, and they are still narrow and still steep, lined with much the same small terraces.
Small terraces, small kitchens
A two-up two-down off Naseby Road has a kitchen at the back with room for a 60cm freestanding cooker and very little else. That is a £77 job, about ninety minutes. Where the back has been extended, and plenty have, you find a Stoves or Belling 90cm range instead at £114. Racks, shelves, trays and side runners come out to the heated tank in the van. The cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand indoors with non-caustic products, so the kitchen does not smell afterwards.
The hill is the reason for most things here
Norwood New Town has no station of its own, because the ground was too steep for the railways to bother with. People walk down to Gipsy Hill or West Norwood, or take the buses along the A214 and A215. Croydon's list of controlled parking zones runs from Bynes Road through to West Thornton and has nothing for Upper Norwood, so the kerb here is mostly uncontrolled. That sounds like good news. It rarely is, because narrow streets with no controls fill up by nine in the morning and a van carrying a heated tank needs a real gap, not half of one.

Where will the van go?
As close to the door as the street allows. On Crystal Terrace that can mean the bottom of the road and a walk up with the racks, which we plan for rather than argue about.
Will the oven work straight after?
Yes. It is heat-tested and signed off before we leave, and the indoor products are non-caustic, so there is nothing to burn off.
Do you take end-of-tenancy bookings here?
Yes, and a good share of the SE19 terraces are let, so we do plenty. Technicians are insured and DBS-checked.
Can you clean the hob and hood too?
A hob is £23–28 depending on the type, a hood £28, a microwave £22.
