In 1905 the Harrow School trust bought 192 acres of Sheepcote Farm, where the Grimwade family had made some of the first dried milk for troops in the Crimean War, to stop building near the school. Wembley Council bought the land in 1936. Harrow Technical College, now the University of Westminster's Harrow campus, went up on part of it in 1959, and Northwick Park Hospital in the 1970s. Most of the place is park, campus and hospital, with homes at the edges.
The streets at the edge of the park
Churchill Avenue, Rushout Avenue and Thurlby Close are close to Northwick Park station, north of the hospital. Rushout was the surname of the Barons Northwick, lords of Harrow manor until 1887. The three roads share a small census area (Brent 008D) with the hospital and the university campus. Of its 663 households in 2021, 49.0% lived in a purpose-built block of flats, 25.5% in a semi and 8.6% in a detached house; 41.2% rented privately.
The 1920s Northwick Park Estate is about 700 metres north-east of the station, round Northwick Circle. Its streets were laid out by the contractor R.H. Powis in 1923 for Captain E.G. Spencer-Churchill, lord of Harrow manor, around the Northwick Park Tennis and Social Club, whose clubhouse the Harrow District Masonic Council took over in 1953. The builders Costins were still completing houses there in 1932, and their brochures describe detached mock Tudor houses. A kitchen in a house that size may hold a double oven or a 90cm range; a range takes 2 to 3 hours, so say which when you ring.
Northwick Parkside: 654 homes on the hospital car parks
Brent Council, the hospital trust, the University of Westminster and Network Homes plan about 1,600 homes on the land between the hospital and the park. Phase one, 654 homes on the old staff car parks, won planning permission in March 2023 and building began that month. In August 2026 Sovereign Network Group and Countryside Partnerships announced the first handovers, 50 shared ownership homes and 35 private homes, with more completions to follow. Of the 654, 323 are affordable, some of them for key workers, and the shared ownership flats have one or two bedrooms.

Parking for the van round Northwick Park
Brent's parking map shows no controlled zone on Churchill Avenue, Rushout Avenue, Thurlby Close or round Northwick Circle. The nearest controlled bays are the Kenton pay and display by Kenton station, 8am to 6.30pm Monday to Saturday. Brent's Wembley event-day zone starts a few hundred metres south-east of Northwick Park Village, so these roads are outside it.

Northwick Park Road is a Harrow street, and the west end of Northwick Avenue is in Harrow's Greenhill ward; Harrow runs its own parking zones, so tell us the street when you book.
