North Wembley station opened on 15 June 1912 on the London and North Western Railway's New Line out of Euston. It was to have been called East Lane, after the road that crosses the tracks there, and Bakerloo trains have stopped since 16 April 1917.
Houses either side of East Lane
Much of North Wembley is the mock-Tudor Sudbury Court estate, built between 1927 and 1936 north-west of the station; the Sudbury page tells its story. Brent's archive records an earlier, industrial chapter: an aircraft factory and a flying ground near the station in the First World War. In 1922 the works site, by then making cars, was taken over by the General Electric Company. In the late 1940s prefabs went up along East Lane.
The census splits the roads round the station into small areas of a few hundred homes, and two of them, side by side, look quite different:
- Shelley Gardens, Langham Gardens and East Court (Brent 008C)
- 464 households in 2021; 71.3% in a semi, 75.2% owner-occupied, 21.1% renting privately
- Ada Road, Oldborough Road and Woodfield Avenue (Brent 013A)
- 489 households; 47.0% in a semi, 27.4% in a purpose-built block of flats, 47.4% renting privately
Renting near North Wembley station
With almost half of the households in the Ada Road, Oldborough Road and Woodfield Avenue area renting privately, the oven is a regular item on checkout lists, and the tenant may book it before handing back the keys. East Lane is the event-day line
On Brent's parking map none of the North Wembley roads from Byron Road and Shelley Gardens down to Woodfield Avenue is in a controlled parking zone. Stadium days are another matter. West of the station the northern edge of the Wembley event-day zone is at East Lane, give or take a few metres: East Lane and the streets south of it, such as Woodfield Avenue, are inside, while Ada Road, Shelley Gardens, East Court and the roads further north are outside. Byron Road, Peel Road and Oldborough Road touch the zone only where they meet East Lane. Inside the zone only residents and businesses with an event-day permit may park, generally from 10am to midnight in residential streets and from 8am on the main roads to the stadium (Brent's event-day rules). The team needs somewhere to park, so on an event day the street matters.

Most of it is. Hirst Crescent, east of the station, and Peel Road, just north-west of it, have HA9 postcodes, and Sudbury Court Drive has a Harrow HA1 postcode although it is in Brent.
Can the van park on a Wembley event day?
Ada Road, Shelley Gardens and the roads north of them are outside the event-day zone. A household inside the zone but outside a controlled parking zone can buy up to two paper visitor permits from Brent, valid for three years, for visitors to park where parking is allowed.
