Thurrock has designated seven, from Horndon on the Hill in 1969 to East Tilbury in 1993. North Stifford is not on that list. In April 2026 an outline application for up to 126 homes, half of them affordable, was submitted on farmland off High Road by Obsidian Strategic Asset Management.

What happens to the racks and trays?
They lift out and soak in a heated tank in the van. The cavity, fan cover and door glass are done by hand indoors with non-caustic products, so the cottage should not smell afterwards.
How long does it take?
Around 90 minutes for a single oven, about two hours for a double. It is heat-tested and signed off before we leave.
