The East Greenwich Gas Works was the last gas works built in London, and the most modern. It went up between 1881 and 1886 for the South Metropolitan Gas Company under George Livesey, took coal in off the river, and spread to some 240 acres, running about two kilometres from Blackwall Point towards New Charlton. It was adapted to make gas from oil in the 1960s and stopped in 1976. Then it sat derelict.

Knight Dragon are building out 15,730 homes, 3,950 of them affordable, along 1.6 miles of Thames frontage and 48 acres of public space, at a figure put near £8.4 billion and due to finish in 2043. The five Upper Riverside towers at 6 Peninsula Square are the part most people picture. Greenwich Millennium Village, further south, came earlier.
Heat arrives down a pipe rather than from a boiler
The Low Carbon Energy Centre, designed by C.F. Moller with the artist Conrad Shawcross and completed in 2017, feeds a district heating network out to each plot, and it is the largest new-build residential heat network in Europe, sized for around 10,000 homes. The kitchens are compact and fully fitted, so an integrated single at £77 is the common booking, and the extractor hood is £28 on top.

There is nowhere to park, and that is deliberate
There is no on-street parking on the Greenwich Peninsula at all. The controlled zone reaches every street within two miles of The O2, event nights tighten it further, and the arena's own 2,500 spaces across four car parks go to ticket holders. Tell us the building and floor when you book, and say if there is a gig on. Racks, shelves, trays and side runners soak in the heated dip tank in the van; the cavity, fan cover and door glass are degreased by hand indoors with non-caustic products, and the oven is heat-tested before we sign it off.

Do I need to arrange parking for you?
No, that is on us. It helps to know if The O2 has an event that evening.
Do you clean induction and ceramic hobs?
Yes. A hob is £23–28 depending on the type, quoted on the phone with everything else.
Is SE10 charged at a higher rate?
No. There is no premium-area surcharge and no call-out fee inside the North and South Circular.
