North End began as a hamlet in the parish of Crayford, and an 1848 count put 191 people in it. It covered the ground either side of what is now North End Road, between Colyers Lane and Boundary Street, and Myrtle Farm stood inside that stretch. The farm has gone. The name is going the same way.
The name survives on a ward, just about
North End held its own electoral ward from 1978 to 2018. The boundary review folded it into Slade Green and Northend, which is how it appears on a Bexley council map now, inside the Bexleyheath and Crayford constituency. Buses 89 and 428 run through it. Slade Green station on the North Kent Line is the rail option, Dartford one way and London the other.
Interwar semis, and the cookers that came with them
Colyers Lane is lined with 1930s semi-detached houses, and semi-detached is the dominant type across the DA8 3 postcodes here rather than the tighter terraces nearer the Erith riverside. That stock tends towards freestanding cookers and under-counter singles rather than the integrated column ovens of a new flat, plus a good number of 60cm doubles dropped in during later refits, which is what usually decides whether a booking is a single or a double. My kitchen is small. How much room do you need?
Very little. The soaking is done outside in the van, so indoors it is one technician, the cavity and the door glass.
Is this suitable for an end-of-tenancy check?
Yes. The door glass is split where the design allows, which is the part an inventory clerk actually looks at.
