St James' Church stands on North Cray Road, DA14 5EQ, built in 1852 on a site that had a church on it in Saxon times, with the chancel extended in 1870 to give it the shape it has now. Loring Hall, once Woolett Hall, dates from about 1760 and is also Grade II listed; Viscount Castlereagh lived there from 1811 and died there in August 1822, while Foreign Secretary. The manor went to Bishop Odo, half-brother of William the Conqueror, as part of the larger Ruxley holding.
